"What if autonomy only begins after death? In the process of preparing the beads, I remember saying: 'They are not here, but I am birthed; they are not here, but I am watched.' And in the language of Boo’s fleeing, I started to transcribe the beads as a measure or validation of their existence. Permeated and dispossessed. We use the beads to dream of our dead, buried and untouched, far away, from the here and now, far away from the then and there."
